The Sickened "Seed" was planted many years ago. After finishing our first LP, we immediately wanted to up our game and see what else we were capable of. We're all fans of concept albums and decided we wanted to take a stab at making one ourselves. Musically, we wanted to create a soundscape that fit the concept, but we already had some riffs and material written by the time we decided what it would be. So the first challenge was to arrange some existing ideas to fit the idea without compromising or forcing it. After a few iterations things finally started snapping into place and the rest of the album revealed itself... but still had to be written... and recorded... Fast-forward through a few years of personal and global events and we arrive on the other side displaced and a couple of members lighter, but still intact and nearing completion of the writing and recording. We took a big swing and hit a home run recruiting Hannes Grossemann to perform drums, and Jens Bogren to mix and master. After a bit more grinding, we finally reached the finish line. I can personally say, after this album I have a renewed appreciation for concept albums and their writers. Lyrically, it shares a common thematic thread with our previous works, but it has been woven into a much more detailed overarching concept which, although concise, is not spelled out so literally. I always enjoy interpreting the meaning behind albums, concepts especially, so we want to leave that for the listeners. Maybe someday we can exchange notes. We didn't set out to fit it into any specific style or genre. It's within the realm of "metal", but we wanted to let the music go in whatever direction felt right. So, we tried some new things on this album and we're very happy with how it turned out. |
