"When a Star Falls" is heavily inspired by various progressive rock/metal acts, particularly the likes of Tool, Porcupine Tree, and Oceansize, and the writing process often involved taking fairly straightforward riffs or ideas and simply experimenting with what would happen if the time signature was amended or the idea was chopped up digitally. The writing process initially started during lockdown, with ideas for what would eventually become “The Incongruity Of I” being born out of guitarist Dennis Berry and drummer Peter Nicholson performing home instrument recordings and then passing these back and forth online. This writing process persisted for the majority of the songs on the album, allowing for easier reflection on the longer songs' orders and sudden changes of direction. Once the album had been demoed it was recorded by Ari Rannus, with the final product being the sum of over 18 months of hard work. |
