Happy New Year to all our loyal longtime members, our new members and those of you joining us from EACs throughout the state. As usual, the year’s new laws and other changes will provide challenges for all employers. However, your EAC is here to provide you with updated information to help to move forward in a safe and effective manner. I am very excited about our program lineup this year. We are featuring several new but important topics and are bringing back all our highly rated speakers. Please check the full line up on our website. While this email will not allow me to review our complete schedule, I would like to highlight the month of January for you. As usual, we begin our year with our always popular New Laws program. On January 11, Craig Scott will be back to provide us with his analysis of the most important new legislation and other significant developments. Here are just a few of the key areas Craig will be covering: - Minimum wage increases and their effect on exempt salaries.
- Paid sick leave – The new law expands sick leave requirements from three to five days for nearly all employers. NOTE: Our EAC has received a multitude of questions on how to handle the various options that are available and on how to interpret some of the law’s confusing elements.
- Off-the-job Cannabis use and the increased protection for employees.
- Workplace violator protection plans including employer requirements.
- Non-compete agreements are now unlawful. Notices are mandated.
