Mr. Holland’s OpusIn this movie, a composer spends his life teaching music, but writes a symphony on the side. After decades of teaching, his students gather to surprise him by performing his symphony. The composer sees that his life’s work is not only the symphony, but also the people whom he has influenced throughout his career. Mr. Stahlke’s OpusIn real life, the composer Jonathan Stahlke has spent his life teaching, but since the 1990s he has also been composing an oratorio-like setting of the Song of Songs. The work is finally completed, and his music students are gathering in a reunion to play/sing it on Sunday, June 21, at 4 pm in Chapel of Our Lord at Concordia University Chicago (7400 Augusta St. in River Forest). In addition, many community musicians and several professional singers will also perform, including four outstanding vocal soloists. Song of All Songs (40 minutes long) will be the second half of the program; the returning choir and orchestra students will play other music selections before intermission. Please consider attending this wonderful event! It is the culmination of several decades of work by Jonathan to study the biblical text, compose the music, orchestrate it, and then supervise its publication and performance. There is no admission charge; in addition, there are free events before and after the concert. Here is the schedule for Sunday, June 21: 1:30 – 3:00 pm Choice of two different events: - Poetry, Art, and Storytelling about the Song of Songs - Round table discussion of the Song of Songs with three leading theologians 4:00 pm World Premiere of Jonathan Stahlke’s Song of All Songs 5:30 pm Reception on the center lawn of Concordia University Chicago To sign up for a free ticket to Sunday’s events, see this link: https://www.cuchicago.edu/events/2026/062/festival-of-scripture--the-arts--song-of-all-songs/ Under the tab at the bottom for “Festivalgoers,” you can register under "Guest or Spouse Sunday Concert and Reception.” There is no charge for tickets. Hope to see you there! If you have questions, contact Jonathan at 708-341-4679 or Mary at 708-552-1271. |

Spend Some Time at the Turquoise TableYou might have noticed the Turquoise Table on the front lawn. The table was built by the kids at The Projects to provide a place for Trinity members to connect with the people in the community. We are encouraging you to spend some time at the table to help complete this mission. You’re welcome to just drop by and sit at the table at any time. If you’d like to sign up for a specific time it will help others know when to come to the table. Sign up for one time, or on a regular basis, and stay as long as you’d like. There will be a calendar for this in the Narthex and a QR code as well. While you’re at the table don’t be discouraged if no one walks by. Or if no one sits with you. Enjoy the gift of time at the table. You’ll be surprised what you notice. There is a Turquoise Table basket available for you to use when sitting at the table. It contains things you can share with others – water, snacks, prayer books, and Trinity bracelets. Thanks to Tony Pavlovsky who designed, helped build, and paint the table with a bunch of crazy kids! The first 10 people who sign up get a free turquoise bracelet made by Natalie Bruschuk! |
