Guarded Hearts and Minds Do you worry about stuff? Don’t we all sometimes? I find myself worrying about the exact same things I have worried about my whole life. There might be different topics as the years go on, but all my worries come from the same question. “What if God doesn’t take care of this?” Or maybe even more honestly, “What is God doesn’t take care of this in the way I want it taken care of?” Personally, I find that He does things His way and never seems to consult me. I think all our problems in life revolve around this dilemma. People think that they can sooth the pain with food or drugs. They try to fill the loss with sex and serial relationships. They try to numb themselves by isolating themselves. They fear what might happen to them if God does not act. But there is nothing to fear. That’s God’s promise to us in Philippians 4. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” It’s not a wish. It’s a promise. Your hearts and minds are guarded by Christ Jesus and that is by definition “the peace of God.” There are no “what if’s?” God has claimed you through your baptism. You are His and He will take care of what is His. So, the next time you feel that cold hand of fear begin wrap itself around your heart, remember who you are and whose you are. There is nothing that can happen to you outside God’s will and whatever happens, God will turn for your good. Some days will be great and some will be less than stellar but we are headed for paradise and Christ Jesus himself guards our hearts and minds until we get there. Pastor Rogers |
