Always Growing in Christ

The Lion's Roar

Amos 3:8
"The lion has roared; who will not fear?
The Lord GOD has spoken; who can but prophesy?”

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16 ESV

What Did We Gain By the Overturning of Roe v Wade?

Almost 40 years ago the Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled that states could not make abortion illegal because 1) a pregnant woman’s baby was not protected by the Constitution since the Constitution did not mention unborn children and 2) the unborn child was not a human being since the Constitution only guaranteed rights to people naturalized or born citizens. It prevented states from making abortion illegal thereby essentially making abortion a federally guaranteed right to all women. Now, this law has been overturned by the same court that implemented it in 1973. What do we gain as Christian citizens of the United States of America?

  1. Abortion has lost its front of moral superiority behind which so many hid the murder of millions of inconvenient children. Because the highest court in the land said that they were not human beings, how can anyone argue otherwise? Never mind the Holy Scriptures that have always said that we are a person whom God recognizes from the moment we are conceived. If certain legal minds and scientists say otherwise, who are we to trust in God? If that child is only a mass of tissue, then one may console oneself with the reality that one is not ready to be a parent yet, or not ready to grow up, or did not ask for this child, or never even wanted a child. But now, we no longer have the court saying that the child conceived in the womb is not a human being. Now the court is saying that science is divided as to the “humanity” of an unborn child. So, if science cannot speak conclusively, neither should the courts. God is good. He has given us a court that is not interested in mollifying the liberal left, who is not afraid of being called “far removed” by the President of the United States. Thank God that He worked through the processes we have in this nation and brought His will to bear through the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
  2. Other practices and lifestyles that are offensive to God may soon lose their protection from a liberal government and suffer a great reduction in empowerment from a liberal court system. Christians have long been generally tolerant of unscriptural behavior. If you want to practice homosexuality or live as a gender that is different from the one God gave you, Christians have generally shrugged and said that God calls us to love all people regardless of their particular sin even as He loves us regardless of our particular sin. However, LGBTQ+ proponents have been protected by the same law of Constitutional privacy that was established in Roe v. Wade. Since a woman had the Constitutional right to murder her unborn child, there could be no consequences leveled against her for doing so either publicly or privately. Likewise, since the Constitution does not address helping your 9-year-old child to transition from one gender to another, it must be protected Constitutionally so no one can do anything about it. President Biden is quite correct that now that Roe v. Wade has fallen, many of the other assumptions around LGBTQ+ matters will also begin to fall like a house of cards. The Church stands ready to forgive all penitent sinners but we do not pretend that sin is not sin because you want to commit it and now it appears the Constitution may no longer protect you in doing so.
  3. Finally, perhaps we are on a road toward speaking honestly again about right and wrong. God bless this court for standing up and saying that just because you want to do it (whatever “it” is) does not mean that you have Constitutional protection to do so. The Church and Holy Scriptures have long guided this nation in determining right from wrong and until the mid-1960’s we were very successful in maintaining a society that strove for a high moral goal. I pray that God has worked through our Supreme Court to set us on the path to reclaiming the ability to know and proclaim right from wrong and not get sued for doing so by people who are trying to justify their own sin and hide their debauchery in legalese and science fiction.
