College Tour and Colonial Williamsburg B4 Youth Theatre has been actively working with a group in Philadelphia known as the Royal Change Makers established in 2021. The program's lead coordinator is Yves-Marie Desir who is the founder of Afro-Caribbean Cultural Arts Assembly (ACCAA), an after-school program that educates students about Pan African history through Arts and Crafts as well as emphasizes positive body image and self-esteem. Currently, Ms. Desir is a consultant for WOAR Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence. B4YT founder, Jasmine Blanks Jones is a Philly native and is thrilled to be able to give back to the community. The Royal ChangeMakers consists of African and Caribbean first-generation American students. They are currently writing plays to address Sexual Assault and Abuse within their communities. Last month, they traveled to Virginia for the Hampton University High School Day! Later, they connected with writer, actor, and director Deirdre Jones Caldwell for a workshop at Colonial Williamsburg. Deirdre is a part of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Change Makers have begun to turn their plays into a tour to perform throughout Philadelphia. The plan is for the Philadelphia group to continue to grow. Hopefully, by August of next year, there will be Senior Student Instructors leading a group of younger students similar to the structure in Liberia. Stay tuned, there are plans developing for expansion into the Baltimore area. To inquire about programming in the United States, please email b4youththeatre@gmail.com. |
