A children's book by an African and/or African descended author will be selected monthly Youth and child performance groups (families, school clubs, classrooms, religious groups, e.t.c) can register monthly to participate by either 1) submitting a video of their drama inspired by the book, or 2) performing their drama inspired by the book live at the monthly gathering. Each book selected for the monthly competitions will come with two questions for consideration. Learning from these questions should be incorporated into the performance. This activity will align with the literacy standards. All performances will be entered for a chance to win prizes in each of the following categories: - Strongest research of theme/topic (incorporating answers from monthly questions)
- Most creative version of the story
- Best costumes
Rules: - Performances should be between 3-5 minutes. Longer performances may be disqualified.
- Performances must be led by children and youth age 20 and younger.
- Groups must register in advance and consent to being recorded.
