Hey, teachers!

Everyone knows that foreign languages are one of the most difficult subjects to learn, which requires a significant level of neural activity from students.

The English lessons are characterized by high intensity and require students to concentrate  and strain a lot. It is important to remember that a teacher who wants to keep something in the student's memory has to make sure that as many senses as possible should be involved in memorization. Various methodological tools significantly increase the efficiency of people because they involve other analysers, new, not tired areas of the brain.

Brain breaks help to solve the following tasks:

  • They reduce fatigue and the negative impact of a monotonous working posture.
  • They activate students' attention and increase opportunities for the perception of educational material.
  • They relieve students from brain strain for a while.

There are different kinds of brain breaks: poetry, games, dancing. After such a movement, students become more active, their attention is activated, and  they become more interested in further learning.

Do you think that only children need to have such breaks? Definitely not! Even adult students need a short break and a change of activity. Therefore, we are happy to share with you a selection of various brain breaks for different age groups of students.

Poetry breaks

It’s the simplest kind of brain break in terms of preparation and organization. But it is extremely useful when it comes to teaching children because by repeating after the teacher children not only move and rest but also learn new words and expressions. All you need to do is recite the poems, supplementing each line with certain movements:

***

Giraffes are tall, with necks so long. (Stand on tiptoes; raise arms high up into the air.)

Elephants' trunks are big and strong. (Make trunk with hand and arm.)

Zebras have stripes and can gallop away, (Gallop around in a circle.)

While monkeys in the trees do sway. (Sway back and forth.)

Old crocodile swims in a pool so deep, (Pretend to swim.)

Or lies in the sun and goes to sleep. (Lay head on hands and close eyes.)

 ***

Walking, walking, walking, walking.

Hop hop hop, hop hop hop.

Running running running

Running running running

Now we stop. Now we stop.

 ***

(Act out the verses as you say them.)

Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, dance on your toes.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch your nose.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, stand on your head.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, go to bed.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn out the light.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, say good night.

***

I can swim like a fish

Can you swim like a fish?

Can you run like a rabbit?

Can you jump like a kangaroo?

He can, she can,

You can, they can

And I can too.

Can you sing like a bird?

Can you walk like a cat?

Can you climb like a monkey in the zoo?

He can, she can,

You can, they can

And I can too.

***

I played a game.

I rode my bike.

I had a snack.

I took a hike.

I read a book.

I watched T.V.

I built a fort.

I climbed a tree.

I surfed the web.

I played guitar.

I caught a bug

inside a jar.

I called my friends.

I dug a hole.

I kicked a ball.

I scored a goal.

I had a swim.

I learned to skate.

I played with toys.

I stayed up late.

It’s fair to say

I do like school,

but even more, though,

weekends rule!
