 📌 The regulator set new price-caps for electricity

On June 27, the NEURC adopted a resolution "On establishing limit prices on the day-ahead market, intraday market and balancing market." According to the Resolution, starting from June 30, 2023, the following maximum prices are set for:

1) the day-ahead market (DAM) and the intraday market (IDM): the maximum limit prices for the hours of minimum load (from 00:00 to 07:00 and from 23:00 to 24:00) – UAH 3,000.00/MWh and for hours (from 07:00 to 19:00) – UAH 5,600.00/MWh; for hours of maximum load (from 19.00 to 23.00) - UAH 7,200.00/MWh; minimum marginal price – UAH 10.00/MWh;

2) for the balancing market: the maximum limit price is 125% of the IDM price determined by the market operator for each calculation period of the corresponding day of supply; the minimum marginal price is UAH 0.01/MWh. Source.


 ✔️ A meeting of the VRU Committee on Energy  regarding 9011-d was held

On June 28, at its meeting, the Committee supported the adoption of amendments to the wording of the draft law for the second reading (right column), which was published on the website.

The Committee recommended that the VRU adopt draft law №9011-d in the second reading and as a whole, as a law with the necessary technical and economic studies. Record of the meeting.


📊The level of payments of the Guaranteed Buyer to RES producers

As of June 26, the level of GB payments to RES  producers for the 20 days of June was 42.3%. In total, 53.5% has been paid for 2023. The level of NPC "Ukrenergo" debt increased to UAH 21.5 billion. Source.


👉🏻The share of non-performing loans in the renewable energy industry increased to 51% at the beginning of May from less than 3% before the beginning of the invasion - NBU

According to the NBU, the share of "green" energy loans in the gross loan portfolio is almost 4%. In some banks, the share of the portfolio reaches 13%, according to the report on financial stability for June 2023 of the National Bank of Ukraine. The lack of a margin of safety may lead to a new wave of defaults after companies leave the regime of temporary relaxation of debt payments, the NBU emphasizes.


📌The guaranteed buyer demands UAH 32 billion from Energoatom in court on PSO for the population

The amount of the principal debt is almost UAH 19 billion, interest is more than UAH 9 billion. In support of the claims, the plaintiff referred to the defendant's violation of his obligations under the contract for the provision of services to ensure the availability of electricity for household consumers by the guaranteed buyer in terms of payment of the cost of services for March-December 2022 and January-April 2023. ⚡️CMU resolution on the functioning of energy management systems

The Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure published the draft Resolution of the CMU "Some Issues of the Functioning of Energy Management". Comments and proposals to the draft act should be sent to the Ministry of Infrastructure within 15 days from the day of its publication miu@mtu.gov.uaSource.

✔️"Ukrenergo" and CISCO are starting a project to modernize and protect grids

"Ukrenergo" is starting the pilot project "Future Grids" to modernize and strengthen the protection of main grids, the introduction of Internet of Things technologies in the energy sector. To implement it, our company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CISCO, the world leader in the field of digital grids technologies," - it is stated in the message of the Ukrainian TSO. Among the five directions of the "Future Grids" initiative, cooperation with CISCO will primarily be aimed at protecting technological grids.


✔️ Volodymyr Kudrytskyi held a press briefing on the state of Ukraine's energy system in the summer and preparations for the autumn-winter period

"If last year we had a surplus and we could export electricity to Europe, then this summer and this autumn-winter we will have a more deficit system, that is, it will need to be balanced at the expense of additional factors. But please do not confuse them with outages," Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, head of NPC Ukrenergo, said during a speech at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine. Details. Ukrenergo has attracted almost €900 million from international partners, as the chairman of the board of the company stated, by the end of the year they expect an increase of several hundred million in order to use this resource to invest in preparation for the heating season.


👥 EUEA participated in the call of the working group with the Ministry of Energy-IRENA regarding ETAF

IRENA has developed a set of tools called ETAF  to support the global energy transition. One of the key elements of ETAF is a climate finance solution that directs US$1 billion to renewable energy projects. IRENA has entered into partnership agreements with organizations such as Abu Dhabi Development Fund, Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank (AIIB), Masdar, Swiss Re and others to ensure the success of the project. ETAF focuses on project implementation in IRENA member countries, supporting large-scale commercial projects using proven renewable energy technologies. In addition, ETAF promotes Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects that bring together government and private entities to develop the RES sector. To apply for support from ETAF, interested parties can visit the ETAF website https://etafplatform.org/.

Ukrainian projects seeking support from ETAF must be sent through the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) or the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. The Embassy of Ukraine in the United Arab Emirates is ready to facilitate dialogue regarding various investment projects. 👉🏻The green innovation fund InnovateUkraine starts work

As part of the cooperation between Ukraine and Great Britain, the InnovateUkraine fund is starting its work in the field of green innovations. It will provide grants to support enterprises in developing innovative, sustainable energy technologies and business models. It is emphasized that the main goal of the InnovateUkraine fund is to strengthen energy security. The total volume of the fund is £62 million. The initial allocation of funds will be £10 million, the rest of the funds will be directed in installments until 2025. The grant competition is open to businesses from both the UK and other countries. Applications are accepted until September 15. Details.


 👉🏻EUEA has started the implementation of the SMARTER4EU grant project

The European-Ukrainian Energy Agency (EUEA) jointly with Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine (EECU) have commenced the implementation of the SMARTER4EU grant project, funded by the European Commission. This initiative builds upon the achievements of the SMARTER Finance for Families (SFFF) project, which successfully expanded Green Homes & Green Mortgage (GHGM) programs across 12 European countries with the support of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program.At the core of the SMARTER4EU project lies the concept of combining low-cost, credible green certification with a verified high standard of energy performance in homes.

The SMARTER4EU project has strong potential to implement valuable tools for Ukraine’s green rebuilding efforts said Kateryna Polyakova during the kick-off meeting in Brussels. By scaling up successful green housing certification and green finance mechanisms, it aims to enhance energy security, mitigate energy poverty, and drive sustainable development.  Details.
