Dear ladies and gentlemen, Dear friends, Works of art are reflections of their time. The fact that an Iranian woman in the diaspora, who was not permitted to publish her compositions in her home country, is now revolutionising the musical 'system of her fathers', can be seen as a signal of change. The composer and tar virtuoso Elshan Ghasimi is the first woman to renew the ancient melodic repertoire of Persian classical music, the Radīf. Elshan Ghasimi will premiere her new interpretation of the Radīf in the Basilica of the Bode Museum on 10th November 2022. An opening address will be given by the Director of the Museum of Islamic Art, Prof. Dr. Stefan Weber, and the British music and opera critic Michael Church, editor of the standard work on global classical music cultures The Other Classical Musics. In the first chapter of the composition project, which is scheduled to run for several years, Ghasimi will devote herself to the melodies of the Dastgāh-e Shur module. Further concerts in the four-part series will take place on Thursdays at 7pm on 17th and 24th November in the Bode Museum, and on 1st December in the Museum of Musical Instruments.
You, your family and friends will all be very welcome. |
