Foreword
Bring_Joy_to_Cam_n_Nepal

For nearly twenty years, OHF has been helping the poor in Cambodia and Nepal. Our motto “Make Hope Real” means we have to execute projects that have a significant impact on families. We hope you can visit Cambodia and see how a nice wooden house is appreciated by a family who otherwise lived in a shack. You can understand what a shack is when you are in the village and see firsthand how families live in such “shacks”. Starting a bakery in our children's home in Nepal saves costs and provides an opportunity for the children to learn baking skills. The projects in this Christmas Wish List will make hope real for the beneficiaries.

Be a child sponsor and receive bi-annual reports on your sponsored child. Be a part of the child’s life by giving him a proper home where they are loved and given opportunities to learn and developed their God-given talents.

Thousands of poor students in Prey Veng are waiting to be sponsored under our Non-Residential Child Sponsor program. With the NRCS sponsorship, they don’t have to skip classes or worry about not having money to buy text or even exercise books.

We have included two income-generating projects, Merlion Café, and the Biomax Digester. We are very excited about these two projects as they have the potential to scale up. Perhaps one day we can export our laksa paste and nasi lemak chilis to Singapore! The Biomax Digester has tremendous potential not just to generate income but to reduce organic waste and provide low-cost fertilizers to local farmers! Biomax is a Singapore company that designed and developed the Biomax Digester together with its special EM-1 enzymes!

Make this a special Christmas by donating generously so that together we can do more for those in need.

Our long-term objective is to have Income generating projects to reduce our reliance on donations. However, these projects require substantial capital investments. With the drop in donations during the covid years, an OHF donor has agreed to provide interest-free loans for these projects. An old building was extensively renovated to be a cafe selling laksa, nasi lemak, and kaya toast. As the building is over fifty years old, the entire roof has to be replaced and part of the floors needed structural repairs. Doors, windows, electrical wiring, lights, and power sockets have to be replaced. Burners, chillers, tables, chairs, and restaurant equipment have to be purchased. Help support our very first income-generating project in Cambodia. Our Hope Village and HQ staff have put a lot of work and thoughts into this project. We make our very own laksa paste and nasi lemak chili from raw ingredients to give a fresh authentic taste rather than use commercially available paste and chilis sauces! Help us redeem the $80,000 loan for this project and provide funds for expansion. Any donation amount would be appreciated.

Organic_Waste

Each day, tons of organic waste is dumped into landfills. It is a tremendous waste as it can be converted into fertilizers. With the Ukraine war, the cost of chemical fertilizers has become expensive. We hope that by converting this organic waste into fertilizers, we can help the local farmers by providing them with low-cost organic fertilizers. Unlike chemical fertilizers, these organic fertilizers improve the soil by adding beneficial microorganisms to the soil. In Feb 2023, we will install a Biomax Digester where duck manure, vegetable, and fruit waste will be converted into fertilizers within 24 hours. These - organic fertilizers will be sold to local farmers and generate Income as well. Besides the Biomax Digester, we need to construct a shed and purchase large bins to collect the waste. This project has the potential to generate substantial income as well as provide local farmers with low-cost organic fertilizers! This project has tremendous potential and the Provincial Government is appreciative of this project that can help them reduce the landfills required. The Biomax Digester cost US$100,000 and is capable of running 24 hours a day non-stop! We need your help to raise funds for this S$200,000 project.

NRCS

While students in Cambodia do not pay school fees. they need to buy stationeries, uniforms, and textbooks. Even worse they regularly skip school to earn money so that the family can buy food. To help these needy students, we launched our NRCS or Non-Residential Child Sponsorship which cost $50 a month. The sponsorship ensures the family gets a food pack every two months so that the child does need not to skip school to earn money. The child is assured of all necessary school supplies. Teachers have confirmed that the sponsored students are doing better with no one skipping classes to earn money for the family. The students are more motivated to study since they don’t have to share textbooks or worry about not having money to buy exercise books!

Bakery

Located In hilly Kasikot, a 45 minutes drive to Pokhara city, the children's home needs to bake their own bread so they don't need to make the long drive to Pokhara to buy bread. Besides bread, the bakery can make cakes for the children's birthdays and pizzas, muffins, and other Items. The children will learn to be bakers which is a skill that could become a future career for some of them. As eventually, we will have 120 children, we need a commercial oven, a proofer, and a large blender plus a host of baking accessories. Help us raise S$ 8,000 for this bakery project.

House

Extreme poverty means families are earning barely enough for food and some essentials. With no money to maintain or build a better house. They lived in run-down shacks that are unfit for human habitation. When families received a proper wooden house that is weatherproof and cool. they cried tears of joy. A decent house means children can study and do their homework in the house, protected from rain and sun. Parents can run a small business and grandparents no longer feel lonely as they can have long conversations with neighbors unde the shade of the house.

As the house is on footers, they are no longer affected by floods or fear of centipedes and snakes crawling into the shack.

Donate any amount to build a S$5,200 house for a poor family. Here is the link for the house donation page.

well
Well_beneficiary

In Singapore, we are blessed to have piped water and treated water in every house. In rural Cambodia, water is from the rain, river, pond, or a well. It is expensive to have a well.

A deep hole has to be drilled for pipes to be installed until it reaches the water table. An airlift pump and a small generator are needed to pump the water up. As the water table has dropped, we can no longer use the cheaper hand pump. The well provides not only water for cooking and bathing but for watering small vegetable gardens as well.

Donate any amount to build a $1,000 well for a family. Here is the well donation link

Imagine looking for a bush so that your can defecate without being seen! Besides the issue of privacy, open defecation results in the spread of diseases. With a proper toilet, you give safety, privacy and dignity to the family.

Donate any amount to build $850 toilet for a family. Here is the toilet donation link.

Save drinking water is unavailable in a school unless we build a UV water system for them. The UV water system consists of a well, pump, tank and a Ultra-Violet sterilizer.

As each school typically has 500 students, this UV Water system is very much appreciated by the students and teachers especially when the weather is hot and humid.

Donate any amount to build a S$4,600 UV water system for a school. Here is the UV water system donation link.
