Save the date for the Monitora Final International Conference “Stop racism, not the game”

Monitora is now entering its last phase, since it will come to an end this year, but we still have exciting things to come! For now, we invite you to save the date for our final international conference, which will take place in Rome on 11th October 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. It will be hosted within the Sabir Festival and it will present the work that has been done during the project. The conference will be a great occasion to promote a discussion on the existing experiences and strategies that can be pursued to strengthen the prevention and fight against discrimination and racism in sport.

More information will come soon!

Stay tuned! Let’s stop racism, not the game!

July will not only be the month of the end of The UEFA European Football Championship and the start of the Olympic games, but also the time that will see the launch of our communication campaign “Stop racism, not the game!”. This campaign will aim at soliciting grassroots sport operators and practitioners to report racist incidents and to monitor them. From July 16th until September 24th, check our campaign on our social media: we are going to share video testimonies, information posts and a video challenge in order to raise awareness on racism in sport but also give some suggestions on practical tools to counter it.

What’s next? Our online training module

If the campaign will give some little hints on how we can contrast racism in sport, the actual practical tools will be given by our Online Training Module “Monitoring racism in grassroots sports”. It is a course dedicated to sports operators, coaches and sport practitioners with the aim of helping them set a monitoring process in their local territory and to create a protocol against racism and discrimination. The training comprises a theoretical part, a part of case studies’ analysis and an action-oriented part through some tried and tested practices.

It will be online in September, we are now making the finishing touches so stay updated on our channels to know more!

What happened in the last few months for Monitora?

Monitora’s National trainings

In January 2024, 4 national trainings took place within the framework of the Monitora project in Italy, Belgium, Finland and Hungary.

The trainings aimed on the one hand at disseminating the results of the first research phase of the project and on the other at stressing the importance of monitoring racism in sports in order to counter it and prevent it.

The participants to the trainings were coaches, athletes, sport operators but also psychologists, sociologists and antiracist activists.

The events received great feedback from the participants who actively contributed in the discussions on tools to eradicate racism in sport and, hopefully, also received new inputs on their possible contributions in this process.

From our side, the trainings represented great moments to receive feedback on the project’s work and also understand different points of views from different stakeholders on the matter

Stop racism, not the game: the Monitora local event in Rome

In June, 24 Lunaria together with Arci Sparwasser organized an event dedicated to the fight against racism in sport, especially at the grassroots level. We invited local coaches, athletes and activists to share experiences and talk about the practices that they put in action when racist incidents occur and what kind of actions they take as a club. The aim was to get through to people with the message that we cannot underestimate the seriousness of everyday racist incidents in the world of sports and that sports fields and facilities should constitute safe spaces for those who live them.

The event was highly participated and we are happy it served as a great opportunity to help networking the local realities involved in the worlds of sports and antiracism in a fun and informal setting!
