| | IABSE Bulletin: Case Study 2 Published! |
|
Interview with Dr. Andreas Lampropoulos, introducing Case Study 2: Click here! Case Studies on Conservation and Seismic strengthening/retrofitting of Existing Structures Recent earthquakes have demonstrated that despite the continuous developments of novel materials and new strengthening techniques, the majority of the existing structures are still unprotected and at high seismic risk. This document contains a collection of nine case studies from six different countries with different seismicity (i.e. Austria, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Nepal and New Zealand). Various types of structures have been selected with different structural peculiarities such as buildings used for different purposes (i.e. school buildings, town hall, 30 storey office tower), a bridge, and a wharf. Most of the examined structures are Reinforced Concrete structures while there is also an application on a Masonry building. Read More: Click here! Members can download their free copy from the Members Area from February 1, 2020 onwards.
Pre-order your Hard Copy by February 5: secretariat@iabse.org Note: Make sure you also read SED 12 which was Case Studies of Rehabilitation, Repair, Retrofitting, and Strengthening: Editors: Prof. M. Bakhoum, Dr. Juan A. Sobrino, 2010 (Available in Members Area and Online Shop). | |

| | | | SED 17 - Extradosed Bridges Structural Engineering International (SED): Extradosed bridges can be an elegant and economical solution for bridges with spans ranging between 100 and 250m. This novel type of cable-supported bridges has become quite successful in recent years first in Japan and then all over the world. Experienced members of the international bridge community have come together in (Working Commission 3) of IABSE to share their knowledge and to prepare a SED which provides the reader with guidance and practical advise that was not available so far. This book contains useful information regarding conceptual and structural design, analysis, construction, cost and typical properties of Extradosed Bridges. | | |

| | | Case Study 2 Pre Order now! Case Studies on Conservation and Seismic strengthening/ retrofitting of Existing Structures Recent earthquakes have demonstrated that despite the continuous developments of novel materials and new strengthening techniques, the majority of the existing structures are still unprotected and at high seismic risk. The repair and strengthening framework is a complex process and there are often barriers in the preventative upgrade of the existing structures related to the cost of the applications and the limited expertise of the engineers.
