6th Young Engineers Colloquium (YEC) Germany and Poland

About 60 conference delegates from 4 countries attended this event, which took place in Berlin. In three sessions, 29 young engineers presented their current research topics as well as challenging construction projects. Keynote Speaker was Michael Virlogeux.

The Milne Medal Lecture and David Nethercot Prize

Neil Thomas from AtelierOne received this year’s Milne Medal and delivered his Milne Lecture on 12th November at the Institution of Structural Engineers.

David Nethercot Prize was also presented the same evening. Ian Firth, British Group Chair, announced the winner Laura Langridge from Knights Architects for her paper on the Tide Mills Level Crossing Replacement.

The newly formed Colombian Group of IABSE met for the first time after its inception in August, to discuss plans for 2020, including steps required to officially register the group locally.

2nd Young Engineers Colloquium, Tokyo

This event was held at the Institute of Technology in Tokyo. Yozo Fujino, Chair of the Organizing Committee and Yaojun Ge, IABSE President gave welcome speeches at the Opening Ceremony. There were 99 participants from not only East Asia but also Europe and South Asia.

Annual Field Trip  & Conference

For the third year in a row, the Spanish Group collaborated with the School of Architecture in Princeton University in its annual field trip to Spain, where students and professors could enjoy the Spanish culture, structural engineering and architecture. They visited Madrid, Granada and Cordoba.

The Austrian Group of IABSE held its Annual Meeting and elected a new Chair for the National Group. IABSE takes the opportunity to thank and bid farewell as the Chair to Peter Maydl and welcomes new Chair, Alfred Strauss, who also won the IABSE Outstanding Paper Award (Scientific Paper) this year.
