39th IABSE Symposium Vancouver 2017

Engineering the Future - September 21-23, 2017

The Final Draft of the Presentation Schedule for the upcoming IABSE Symposium in Vancouver is now available here...

At this promising event 400 presentations will be organised into plenary talks, parallel sessions and panel sessions. It will also feature an innovative format of Interactive Poster Sessions: short oral presentations followed by direct discussion with the poster authors. Keynote Speakers: Ron Eguchi, Yaojun Ge, Peter Irwin and Michele Calvi.

Preceding the Symposium, workshops led by internationally renowned engineers will be hosted: Seismic Engineering; Timber Engineering; Forensics, and a special design-oriented workshop for Young Engineers on Bridge Dynamics. Register early to avoid disappointment.

Submission of Abstracts by: September 15, 2017

The Symposium on Tomorrow's Megastructures will be held in Nantes and is organised by the French Group of IABSE in cooperation with the French Association of Civil Engineering (AFGC). Join the discussion and share your experience with today's megastructures and present your vision about those of tomorrow - and more broadly: your prospect for future outstanding structures.

In order to present a paper, submit your abstract online by September 15, 2017, in accordance with the following Themes and Topics:

  • Megastructures: a radical paradigm shift or simply a change of scale?
  • Today’s and tomorrow’s megastructures and megaprojects
  • New trends for innovations in the construction, the preservation, the exploitation and the upgrading of structures.

Ramboll to help build Denmark’s tallest building.

Ramboll has been chosen as consulting engineer for leading international fashion company ‘Bestseller’. A 210m high hotel is the centrepiece of new headquarters for ‘Bestseller’ in its hometown in Brande, Denmark. A 60,000m2 facility will house retail shops for the company’s clothing brands, as well as offices and a high-rise hotel with a conference centre. Ramboll will be responsible for all design engineering and design management. As part of the project, they will make use of their strong international expertise in high-rise buildings, and draw on specialists from Singapore, Dubai, London and Glasgow. more..

Parsons awarded contract for world’s longest suspension bridge.

Parsons in a joint venture with Tekfen Engineering, has won the engineering consultancy, construction support, and construction supervision /inspection services contract for the world's longest suspension bridge being built in Turkey. The contract covers the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge - Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway. Parsons will also provide the Turkish Directorate of Highways (KGM) staff with technology transfer in the design and construction of suspension bridges. Cable Vibrations in
Cable-Stayed Bridges

SED9 by Elsa de Sá Caetano provides a comprehensive survey on the governing phenomena of cable vibration, both associated with direct action of wind and rain. Methodologies for assessment of the effects of those phenomena are presented and illustrated by practical examples. Control of cable vibrations is discussed and state-of-art results on the design of passive control devices are presented. The book is complemented with case reports reflecting the practical approach shared by experienced designers and consultants.
