Educating Engineers to Create Good Looking Bridges
The way bridges look is important. Beautiful bridges evoke positive emotions in people and thus enhance quality of life, whereas ugly bridges do the opposite. Bridges embody particular characteristics that give their appearance special importance relative to other visible objects. Sanjeev Shankar, India, author of the awarded paper ’Living Root Bridge: State of Knowledge, Fundamental Research and Future Application’, presented at the IABSE Geneva Conference 2015, has received a citation of appreciation from the Meghalaya Biodiversity Board, Government of Meghalaya, for his role in the India biodiversity Award given to 'Seng trei lang', a self help group from Mawkyrnot village under the category 'sustainable use of biological resources', for promoting and protecting the root bridges therein. Sanjeev will give a talk on ‘Living Root Bridges' at Cornell University from October 13-16 and at New York Botanical Garden on October 18, 2016. | | |
